Kaltura collab video now in MediaWiki
A big boost for Brooklyn-based Kaltura. The video collaboration startup has teamed up with the Wikimedia Foundation, the company behind Wikipedia. As part of the deal Kaltura is open-sourcing its online rich media remixing technology.
The strategic partnership is launching a beta program that allows users to create collaborative video and other forms of rich media in Wikipedia and any site that uses the MediaWiki software.
Not everybody is happy for Kaltura. On the afternoon of the launch someone on the devwiki claimed in screaming capitals that the site ‘BREAKS THE GFDL!’ and called for a boycott.
Presumably Kaltura responded by removing the line. ‘Thank you for alerting us for the licensing issue,’ someone wrote on the discussion page. ‘This is being fixed.’
