Albie Hecht, Gemini Records enlist Yovia

YoviaYovia will unleash its social media optimization (SMO) powers for two new projects of WorldWideBiggies, former Nickelodeon executive Albie Hecht’s production company that’s so far best known for The Naked Brothers Band.

Yovia is ‘a new kind of advertising network’. Instead of using ads the agency wants to get involved in ‘millions of conversations each day’ on behalf of advertisers. Co-founder Craig Calder will elaborate at next week’s Web2NewYork networking party.

Calder is a former Vice President of Marketing for the New York Times. More recently he worked as turnaround CMO for TheStreet.com and Mochila. With Doubleclick Calder holds a patent for surround-sound advertising.

Albie Hecht enlisted Yovia to work on dog-lovers community site Worldwide Fido and celebrity fantasy league game Star vs Star. Yovia will use SMO to help the new online brands grow into bigger entertainment properties with extensions into television, movies and music.

Yovia has also partnered with Gemini Records to introduce Russian opera/pop star Vitas to the US market. ‘Don’t laugh,’ Calder says. ‘This kid is hotter than a steaming bowl of Borscht all over Asia. He’s had over 15 million downloads on YouTube.’

Yovia is also involved in a new online music community that Gemini Records will launch later this quarter.
