Building a Facebook app company in a weekend
Friday evening the NYC Startup Weekend kicked off at the Polytechnic University in Brooklyn. About 50 strangers came together to form a new web company within a weekend.
The first night was devoted to picking the idea. I argued in favor of a user-generated content idea from Startup Weekend founder Andrew Hyde. The idea was simple and hit a real sweet spot with advertisers.
Unfortunately ‘User Generated Fashion via Geotagging’ was beaten at the finish line by ‘The Greatest Menu Meals‘. To be honest I’m not entirely sure what this idea is about. It will be another Facebook app.
From what I’ve heard the idea sounds very similar to what FriendsEat is already doing. This Hoboken-based startup launched their own Facebook app last week.
