YouTube InVideo changed little for Rocketboom
At the Video 2.0 meetup last week I asked Rocketboom founder Andrew Baron what he thought about YouTube’s new ad scheme.
‘It’s a sign the industry is maturing,’ the vlog pioneer said. ‘Inevitably in the near future video advertising is going to be the number one most profitable way to make money online, as long as you can build a big audience.’
A huge audience remains a prerequisite in the current video ad infrastructure. ‘Media agencies are only willing to do big buys where they can do millions of views per sale. Somebody may have really valuable content and a really high quality audience, but only ten thousand or hundred thousand or a million viewers. The main advertisers don’t want to waste their time with that.’
Rocketboom has signed a revenue sharing deal with YouTube, but apparently it’s no magic bullet. ‘It’s still a lot of work to build up the show and build larger audiences,’ Andrew said. ‘That’s the most important thing to me. It doesn’t really matter to me how the rest of the industry is developing. Those things work themselves out later.’
Andrew Baron will present September 22nd at the One Web Day event in Washington Square Park.
