For Your Imagination’s studio space a few blocks from the Flatiron building is turning into the center of New York’s web 2.0 universe. At least three web events were held at the web video production company’s office this week. I’ve missed last weekend’s One Web Day party and perhaps others.

NYC Startup Weekend is putting the finishing touches on Favoreats, a new Facebook app and website conceived and built in one weekend.

Friday evening the NYC Startup Weekend kicked off at the Polytechnic University in Brooklyn. About 50 strangers came together to form a new web company within a weekend.

The first presenter for the next Web2NewYork is already confirmed. Mobile pioneers Thumbplay will present their new community platform with integrated user-generated content.

Former film producer John Garland convinced ad agency JWT to build out its own production facilities and eventually start producing its own content without advertisers involved.

Garland, JWT’s Chief Operating Officer, was one of the presenters at the first Ad Club Meetup last July.

London-based entrepreneur John Horsley will unveil his new company Marzar at this month’s Web2NewYork networking party. Marzar is an ‘enterprise 3.0 business networking and collaboration tool’ according to Horsley.

Amazon is set to launch a DRM-free iTunes-killer later this month according to the New York Post. In August Amazon lead an investment round in AmieStreet. The New York-based alternative music download store has been confirmed to present at the September 18 Web2NewYork networking party.
