Version 1.0 of DesktopTwo will be released in the next few weeks according to Sapotek’s CEO Joshua Rand. A beta version of the virtual desktop software has been available for the last year. Rand’s startup is wrapping up a major migration to replace Linux with Solaris.

Sun Microsystems is recruiting startups to boost adoption of its unix-flavored server operating system. The company helped Sapotek out with servers and other equipment. Rand could not tell if Sun will eventually buy Sapotek.

Joshua Rand founded Sapotek in 2002 with Oscar Mondragón who leads the tech team in Toluca, Mexico. The New York office so far is a one man show, but that will soon change. In the coming months Rand plans to hire people for business development and marketing.
