Revlayer press roundup
Revlayer has been getting a good amount of press since its launch under another name at Tuesday’s Web2NewYork.
TechCrunch had the scoop Monday. Michael Arrington was most impressed with the simplicity of Revlayer’s solution.
Mashable pointed out that content owners and video hosting sites will probably object to Revlayer’s ad model, that lets site owners generate revenue by placing ad banners on top of embedded video from other services.
VentureBeat introduced Revlayer as a ‘controversial new video advertising technology that publishers will love, but video creators might hate’. Founder Allen Stern told VentureBeat that site publishers ‘have the right to monetize content as we see fit’.
Podtech did an interview with Allen Stern.

It’s incredibly obtrusive. You can barely tell there’s a video under there. If it were 70% opacity it might be slightly less disgusting, but I still wouldn’t want it on my site.

To clarify the comment on VentureBeat - the “we” in “we see fit” are site owners and bloggers. Not “we” as in Revlayer.
